Lightweight cast iron

Well, well, well, it looks like brands are finally listening to what users have been complaining about for years. Mainly the heavy weight and those tough-to-grip handles. I read companies like Lodge, Smithey and Victoria are coming out with lighter versions and more ergonomic designs like think longer handles, smoother interiors and overall easier handling. More user-friendly. Has anyone here tried the newer lightweight ones yet?

I haven't read any news about that yet but I say that's a welcome change for most people, especially for those of us with wrist issues or smaller hands. The classic heft is part of the charm, but a little modernization, particularly on those stubby handles, I think, is overdue. I'd expect there can be a trade-off with the heat retention, though. I mean, less mass means less thermal battery. I'd be curious to hear from anyone who has one of this newer designs! Does the slightly lighter build noticeably affect the sear or is the weight reduction worth it for the ease of use?

I haven't heard anything about lighter cast iron yet, but I have switched over to Lodge Carbon Steel, and while not the same as cast iron they work for me. I have bad arthritis and will look into purchasing new light weight cast iron. Thanks for the info! God Bless. Bob
