waffle iron from yard sale

I need some help identifying a cast iron waffle iron I just scored at a yard sale. The previous owner let it get pretty rusty, and I've already hit it with the wire brush but I honestly haven't made much progress. I'm not seeing any markings, like no numbers, no letters, nothing just yet. I probably need to also ask tips what's the best way to clean and restore this one but I'm really more curious to know if I found a special one! The plates are a perfect 7" by 6.5" square. Any ideas what I might have here? Thanks in advance for any info!

Hard to say without any visible markings, could be an older unbranded piece or maybe the logo is hidden under the rust and that size is a bit unusual though, so you might have something neat. Try a vinegar soak to get more off, maybe the ID will show up

Try checking if it's a Stover or Griswold model, since they made some non-standard designs. For cleaning, yeah same with @iron caster , soaking in a vinegar-water mix followed by scrubbing with coarse salt can help lift rust without damaging the iron

Probably an older unmarked Wagner or Griswold, though some smaller foundries made them too. Finish stripping the rust (vinegar soak or electrolysis works better than brushing) and see if any faint markings show up after seasoning

Probably an older Wagner or maybe an unmarked foundry piece. Sometimes the markings are faint under the rust, try a vinegar soak or electrolysis to bring out details before restoring fully
