my BF’s place is a mess, and I found a terrible rusty cast iron pan in his kitchen. He’s probably never cleaned it properly
I heard that we should season a cast iron pan. what’s the best way to restore it to cooking condition?
should I still keep him as my bf?

lol, idk about this. but to remove the rust, tell bf to scrub it with steel wool or a coarse salt/potato paste, then rinse, dry completely, and immediately reseason by applying a thin layer of oil (like vegetable or flaxseed) and baking it upside down in a 450-500°F oven for an hour to restore the protective layer.

lol, no need to break up, just teach him how to clean the pan properly. other than steel wool, you can use the Lodge Rust Eraser. Then wash the pan with warm, soapy water. it's more effective

one little tip for the stubborn rusty is to try to submerge the pan in equal parts water and white vinegar. just don't leave it longer than 1 hour, or the vinegar will start eating the actual iron

Very good to know! I was never aware of this! Thank you. God Bless. Bob

Heard of this before but didn't know if it actually works.
