I just moved into my own place and I'm trying to master cast iron. when I clean my pan, I use a little warm water and a green scrub pad to get the crusty stuff off.
then, I dry it, and rub it down with whatever veggie oil I have and a paper towel. is this cleaning technique okay? and more importantly, will I actually be seasoning my pan properly just by doing this routine? am I messing up?

Just make sure you are not using soap to clean it. A good scrub with warm water should work and remove food bits.

I use the blue sponges that have a darker blue side for scrubbing, it's better bcs they are less abrasive than the green ones.

you're on the right track. just that iping it with a towel isn't enough because iron is porous. if you trap microscopic moisture under a layer of oil, it can lead to rust or cause the seasoning to flake

and after scrubbing, put the pan on a low burner for 2–3 minutes until all the water evaporates. then apply your oil while the pan is warm.

Agreed. Don't go heavy on soap. Warm water is good, actually.
