brother in law gifted me this griwsworld cast iron dutch oven and it looks really slick!! read some of the carvings on it and in my understanding it says that it was made in 1920. its just pretty odd that it looks like its never been used before considering the year,, so i was thinking was it just displayed or something. theres also a '833 written'. any thoughts?

wow! it's such a score then if it looks like it hasn't been used before i'm quite jealous lol... but yeah i think if it says it's made in 1920 then it really is maybe your brother in law just cares so much about you that he strived to find a perfect condition one! the 833 thing should be model number. look griwsworld 833 you might find something. if not then maybe previous owner did an engraving.

Nice gift @blackf0restt If it says 833 and looks unused, it's likely a #8 lid from the 1920s. Probably sat in storage or was a display piece. Either way, you've got a gem, season it and use it, or show it off

Where do I get these relatives that give these gifts? Dayum that's one rare find!!! I don't have any clue what that 833 means but I suppose @bellionaire knows? Any pics?

Awesome score, sounds like a legit 1920 Griswold #8 Dutch oven with the 833 pattern number. If it looks that clean, it was probably stripped and re-seasoned, or maybe just displayed for years. Does the lid have a matching pattern number too? That'd confirm it's an original set.
