My sister just married and is learning how to cook. she's struggling with her cast iron waffle maker
it’s getting these tacky, sticky patches that a regular scrubby and soap won't touch. does she need to strip it, or is there an easier way to get the burnt oil off?

Just heat the waffle maker and gently scrub those areas with coarse salt or a nylon brush. This helps lift the residue without damaging the seasoning.

You can also ask her to wipe them with a thin layer of vinegar before rinsing and drying thoroughly. Make sure that she applies a light coat of oil and heats it again to rebuild the finish.
