Griswold 2028 fryer

I got a Griswold 2028 fryer with a 2098 lid while supposedly window shopping at the flea market. Now I'm trying to figure out if the finish is hammered nickel or chrome. I'm thinking of using it for cooking but... should it be restored first? Can you guys share tips on cleaning and maybe an idea of what it's worth?

A warmer, yellowish tint usually points to nickel while a brilliant blueish tint points to chrome plating. You'll have to do the whole nine yards and strip it to bare metal for cooking safety but tell me, does the pan sit flat on a countertop with no wobble at all?

Wow, nice score, those don't show up every day, if it's hammered nickel or chrome, I suggest you don't strip it, clean with hot soapy water and a soft brush rather, and if you're cooking with it, the finish shouldn't be flaking, the value depends on condition, but a clean matched set can pull decent money, just don't ruin it trying to make it "like new."

Got it, hammered nickel's got a different feel and look than chrome, right? Just clean it gently to keep it looking good
