Griswold griddle find

I just bought this cool Griswold griddle from a thrift shop. What really caught my eye was this faint mark right in the middle. It honestly looks exactly like a "ghost" of the regular Griswold logo. I mean, it's really subtle, almost like a shadow. It's the first time I've run into anything so strange so I'm really curious about its history or why it might be there. Any tips how to ID this?

Very nice! That feature in vintage cast iron collecting called a "Ghost Mark" And since it's an earlier logo it maybe from a very collectible release. Do you see any pattern number?
From what I know, Erie ghost mark is when you see the word "ERIE" which is from 1880-1907. There's also a elongated diamond shape which is the Diamond Logo. The last one I know is Slant Logo Ghost and should have GRISWOLD which is from 1906-1916. Hope that helps.

a Griswold ghost mark! That is such a cool piece of iron history. It’s not a defect. collectors actually hunt for those because they tell a story about how the pans were made
