Help finding a flat CI round griddle for home use

I'm looking for a round griddle with lower sides to help my kid practice flipping stuff without scraping the pan walls. Found a couple online but unsure how common flat ones still are. Do any of you run into major warp issues on older Griswolds?

Flat round griddles with low sides are still around, but warping can be an issue especially with vintage Griswolds if overheated. Look for thick and even bases to reduce that risk.

I'm guessing the practice includes your kid flipping pancakes? Those old flat griddles are great for practicing their technique!

Yeah, warping can be an issue with vintage Griswolds but there are also a lot of new companies like Lodge, Field Company and Smithey that make modern versions with very low walls!

I will be sure to check for a thick base. You're right about the pancakes, my kid is getting good but the high walls are a challenge. I started looking at the newer brands you mentioned. Are any of the modern griddles lighter than their vintage counterparts?

In my experience, thin pans are the only ones that warp. While they cost less upfront, you end up spending more over time because they have to be replaced so often. You can solve this issue by buying a single, thicker pan made of cast iron or anodized aluminum. That;s why I prefer cast iron. About older Grislwold, not sure if that's an issue.

I've narrowed it down to a Lodge or Field and plan to order one by the end of the week. If it holds up through a few pancake runs, I'll call it resolved by early next month. To ensure I start off right, are there any specific pre-heating techniques you recommend for modern griddles to prevent warping?
