Kettle rebirth project

I just got a cast iron bottom gate T Kettle. I'm mad though coz the online photos were misleading. It has scratches and the lid was covered in black paint. It looked terrible for displaying. So I'm stripping all that old paint off to get back to the bare iron. Now I need to blacken it again. Which is additional work! Engine black paint seems too much.

I remember my mother had an old metal T Kettle, not sure exactly but maybe tin or aluminum. How can I blacken this cast iron one without that kind of paint? The only marks are the number 7 on the lid and the spout's back.

Not completely sure, but I think you could season it just like how you would a skillet. But I don't recommend painting it.

yeah, I agree with Alan, season it with cooking oil and heat. you'll get a durable, nontoxic, black patina. or you can try using a commercially available cast iron stove polish
