I keep running into trivets, both the decorative kind and the more functional ones. It got me curious how people here use and collect them. Some I've seen are purely practical, meant to sit inside Dutch ovens to keep food off the bottom. Others are more ornamental, the kind you set a hot skillet or kettle on at the table. I didn't realize how many designs and makers there are until I started looking around
Do you all treat trivets as part of the cookware rotation, or more as display pieces?

Nice topic, and yes, trivets can really be a mix!
I've got a couple of the sturdy, simple iron ones that are part of my everyday gear, so they're all about function like for setting a big skillet or Dutch oven down on the counter.
But then I've also picked up a few more decorative ones from antique shops over the years.
I don't use them all the time, but they're fun to have around and I'll use them for serving when I have people over.
It's interesting how a simple piece of cast iron can have so many different uses!
At which places and what kind of designs have you been seeing?

Interesting isn't it? I also break them down into two groups. The small stands in the oven are cookware, while the larger, decorative ones are collectibles that we hang up until a hot pan needs setting down. Did you spot any patterns or markers that stood out to you?

My aunt enjoys rotating her Tree of Life between use and display. yeah there is a wider variety and I was also planning to start collecting it. I have been checking online to see which one offers the cheapest ones.
