Looking to identify an old cauldron

I picked up this old cast iron cauldron in a Philly-area auction recently. Based on some cursory research it looks like it may be a late 1800s Pennsylvania-made cauldron? I'm having trouble reading the maker's mark. I can see a clear '12' in the center, but the text around it is very worn and hard to make out. I'd appreciate anyone's expertise that could help in identifying its origin.

Also, I intend to restore it to working condition to cook stews over the campfire. Is there any reason I should not do this? Doesn't look like there was any soldering or repairs so it should just be the original cast iron.
