Picked up an unusual BSR

Picked up a BSR at an auction yesterday, it has a heat ring with an X pattern in the center, which caught my eye quicker than a snicker. I dont think i've ever come across one like it before. Are these common, or did I stumble on something a bit unusual?

@quickbluef0x you know that an X pattern on a heat ring is a classic sign of an early Birmingham Stove & Range piece. They're not super common, especially compared to their later pieces, so you definitely stumbled on a cool find!

Thats really good to know, thanks! I wasn't sure if the X pattern was just a casting quirk or if it actually meant something. Do you know around what years BSR used that style on their early pieces?

I agree with @SweetAndSpicy, the X pattern is one of the more unique ones usually seen on some of their Red Mountain series pieces, which they stared producing in 1930 and ran until around 1966. It's highly likely that your skillet is from within that time period, though that pattern also popped up on other models. If you can look into other characteristics and share it here, maybe other members can help confirm the model and year for you!

Yeah, I agree completely. That X pattern is a key detail that really says Red Mountain from that time. Looking at other markings or how the handle is shaped could maybe help us figure out exactly what it is.
