Scored a Lodge Sad Iron Heater at the antique shop

I found something cool last Friday at an antique store and wanted to share. A cast iron sad iron heater tray that cleaned up really well. It has a gate mark and the only sign of a maker is a small number eight stamped on the bottom of one end. The piece measures about 9 in wide by 19 in long and is 1 in deep and it weighs about 8.5 lbs. After doing some research, I actually found it listed in the "Red Book" under Lodge Sad Iron Heaters, which is the first one like this I have ever come across. Since it's a nice flat tray, it would also be great to use as a rustic serving platter. Cool find!

If I remember it right, the Lodge Logic pans were labeled 'specially treated' on their catalogs and they're also 'ready to use' You just wash with soap and water. It was also pre-seasoned decades ago, but the recommendation is still manually season it.

that's a cool find OP! one little fun fact: the name Sad comes from an old English word meaning solid or heavy, describing the iron itself, and the heaters provided consistent heat for these irons

I was travelling and happened to drop by an antique shop. The guy was selling it for around $250 but he offered a huge discount, so I grabbed it.
