Spotting a fake Griswold Santa cake mold

I've been learning how to tell the difference between a real Griswold Santa cake mold and a fake one.

There are a few key things to look for. The fake ones don't have a tongue sticking out. Also the lettering on the fake one runs off to the side and the casting feels rough. Real Griswold molds have a super smooth finish. There's also often a casting flaw on the bag of the real ones. But sometimes that flaw has been sanded away by a previous owner.

I’m wondering if anyone has seen a really good fake that’s hard to spot. What are some other details we should be checking for to make sure we don't get tricked?

Oh, absolutely! I should also add that the biggest thing is the casting quality. The real ones have an almost glass like finish, and the fakes feel gritty.
don't forget to look at the pattern number on the handle. On the real ones, it's always super clear and crisp, while fakes often have a slightly different font or sloppy casting there too

You're already on the right track... tongue, smooth casting, lettering are big tells then I'd add weight consistency: real Griswolds tend to feel solid and balanced (not thin or lopsided). Also check the back side seams and gates, sloppy seams or big blow-outs are red flags.

These are good suggestions. I wonder if those fake ones have a similar price to the original ones? Or is it way cheaper?
