So here's the deal, I picked up a "Wagner Ware Sidney O cast iron skillet 1058" at a local shop. It's got the smooth bottom people rave about, no warping, and a price tag of $40. It's either a steal or the cookware version of a fashion knockoff.
Now I'm scratching my head. Did I just snag a piece of vintage cooking history, or is this one of those "looks old but isn't" traps? eBay prices are all over the place, from dirt cheap to "you'd better mortgage your house."
Cast iron pros, help me out here. Is this skillet a gem, or did I just sign up for the antique cookware hype machine? Need the lowdown before this becomes my go-to breakfast buddy.
