Why Cast Iron?

Out of curiosity... There are a lot of newer and cheaper options, but what made you decide to switch to cast iron?

I tried those newer nonstick pans but they wear out quickly. I had to spend a few hundred dollars to buy a new one. That's why I switched to cast iron.

YES! I've seen cast iron pans tested by time and passed from generation to generation. I didn't inherit any but my children definitely will.

I love me some hand me down cast irons. So much family history.

The ever famous Teflon. I'm glad research came out about the side effects. It took a while though.

I agree with BigBob75 ! Just a small scratch and it ruins everything.

I like that it gets better with use, not worse. I'm not as hung up on the "coatings are poison" as my wife is, but generally they are a functional piece of history that can both appreciate in monetary value, and appreciate in sentimental value like few pieces of kitchen ware can. It is also fun hunting for deals and getting something really special for an affordable price. You could stop at 2-3 skillets, but who are we kidding, we have much more than that!
